Background
Luis Miguel Fernández de Camino del Norte has launched Auténticos Viñadores, a project dedicated to promoting the small authentic winemakers of Galicia, El Bierzo, and Salamanca in northern Spain. These wines stand out from mass-produced varieties, offering unique expressions of the terroir and showcasing the distinct personality of the winemakers and their lands. The philosophy of Auténticos Viñadores focuses on sustainability, old vines, limited production, and traditional craftsmanship. Driven by collaboration, ethical practices, and a deep respect for regional heritage, Auténticos Viñadores aims to share the dedication, history, and ancestral traditions behind each bottle.
Production Process
This wine emerges from a place of dedication and challenge. The grapes are sourced from old vines over 50 years old, grown on steep terraces (with an average slope of 45%) of Pago As Borreas in Doade, near the Sil River. Owned by Ramón Marcos, these vineyards exemplify 'heroic viticulture', requiring demanding manual harvests and a rail system to transport the grapes downhill. The vinification process remains traditional, using small temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and includes a touch of aging in French oak barrels for six months.
